Joe Sanchez

Joe Sanchez has been laying down grooves for over 30 years, ever since picking up his first bass at the age of 15. Inspired by greats such as Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, and Stefan Lessard, his style reflects a wide palette of funk, jazz, blues, and hip hop influences, all woven into a voice that is distinctly his own.

Known for his versatility, Joe has performed with countless groups across styles ranging from funk and blues to rock and jazz, and is a regular presence at open jams in his local scene. His deep repertoire and adaptability have made him a sought-after bassist, able to step into almost any musical setting with ease. One memorable highlight came when he received a last-minute call to play a jazz gig alongside the legendary alto saxophonist Richie Cole — a testament to his skill, professionalism, and musical intuition.

Whether he’s holding down the pocket, locking in tight with the drummer, or bringing out the melodic side of the instrument, Joe is celebrated for his dynamic musicianship and his ability to elevate every performance.

In collaboration with Donovan Pickups, Joe Sanchez is proud to feature his signature pickup set, a J-Bass bridge and neck combo named 'La Tormenta'. Meticulously hand-wound and voiced to deliver both punch and nuance, La Tormenta captures the depth and articulation he demands in his sound. Wound with a special asymmetrical coil design, the pickup adds an extra layer of funk-driven “punch” that defines Joe’s playing style. Designed to handle tight grooves, melodic runs, and everything in between, it’s engineered to reflect his tonal identity—bold, expressive, and ever-responsive.
